"Out of Hiding –
John Wilkes Booth and the Richmond Grays"

(“Out of Hiding”)
May 10, 2011

“Has He Been Hiding in Plain Sight? John Wilkes Booth and the Richmond Grays” (Hiding), was the first ever comprehensive comparative analysis of several militia images searching for the group image that Asia Booth Clarke saw, which included her brother John, as mentioned in her manuscript, The Unlocked Book.

Released a year later, its supplement, Out of Hiding, provided additional and newly discovered documentation on three militia images that “Hiding” examined.  In furtherance of the search for John Wilkes Booth in uniform with the Richmond Grays, Out of Hiding traced the provenance of those pictures, conducted a forensic analysis of their content, and examined the photographic processes involved.
