Otis Skinner took credit for a quote earlier credit to Mark Twain "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story…"
Skinner's remark pertained to the truth behind a story he told, the famous "midnight burning" of John Wilkes Booth's fabled theatrical wardrobe by his Brother Edwin. Except it was not really Skinner's story to tell. It was the eye witness to the event's story, and he told it himself 12 years before Skinner repeated it. That person was Garry Davidson.
In reconstructing that story relative to two items burned, the story is true and it directly links John Wilkes Booth to another photographic print taken in Richmond in 1859-1860, John Wilkes Booth's in costume for Uncas, Chief of the Mohicans….
